Actor Peter Donat was in fact married to actress Michael Learned from 1956 until 1972. They divorced just prior to the first season of The Waltons. They have 3 children together. Peter starred in The Flamingo Road and appeared as Fox Mulder's father in The X-Files.

Hobart Shank is a former orphan who had stayed at the Waltons for one summer in 1929. He returns to the mountain when a visit from a scout for the St. Louis Cardinals lands him a chance to play pro baseball.

Actor/Writer/Director Michael McGreevey is the son of writer John McGreevey who wrote 20 episodes of the Waltons. Michael himself wrote 4 episodes of the show in Season8/9.
