The Walton's Mountain Museum, located in the creator's hometown of Schuyler, Virginia opened in 1992.

Bryan Garra was there at the opening and had this to say about the event when he took these wonderful images. "6500 folks were in attendance (looked more like 10,000 to me, but when the crowd broke to let the cast go to the outside stage, I was on the front line. My favorite photo is of Ralph Waite!"

In addition to serving as a tribute to Earl Hamner and his TV show The Waltons the museum also serves as the Schuyler Community Center. The former gymnasium contains photos and displays about the actors as well as local history of Schuyler. Replicas of the Walton's living room, John-Boy's bedroom and the kitchen can be see on a self-guided tour. The original radio from the Walton's living room that at one time was on loan from the Smithsonian has been returned. A similiar model is on loan from Ray and Betty Bowen. A display case holds many collectibles and memorabilia from the show. On display is a 65mm film camera that was used for effects shots in Ghostbusters, Batman Returns and Die hard the large format camera is similiar to those used for classic epics like Cleopatra and The Sound of Music. The camera dolly that the camera is mounted to was actually used for the Walton series. Miniature dioramas of the Walton home, Ike Godsey's store and the Baldwin's house are on display. The museum also features a replica of the Godsey Mercantile where visitors can purchase a variety of nostalgic mementos and gifts.
