Walton Fans are familiar with the Saturday Evening Post cover that shows the Waltons gathered for Thanksgiving dinner. The artwork is actually inspired by Norman Rockwell's painting "FREEDOM FROM WANT" which was originally published in the March 6, 1943 issue of The Saturday Evening Post. The painting has had a wide array of adaptations and parodies such as one done 30 years later of The Walton family for the cover of Nov/Dec 1973 issue of the Saturday Evening Post which features the excellent feature article inside that gave audiences their first serious journalistic look at the show. You can read the entire article HERE.
To the right of the original painting is a slideshow of 52 different adaptations and parodies inspired by Rockwell's masterpiece.
Many Walton fans love to share this image of the Waltons Christmas Album during the holidays but did you know that the image was originally taken for an article in Ladies Home Journal for a Thanksgiving issue. The image was altered to appear more festive for it's use as the cover of the Christmas album. David Harper who played Jim Bob was unavailable when the cover photo was taken but we added him back in for this version. You can listen to a few selections from the album HERE.
