"We were a close family growing up on that mountain, but as we grew older and were faced with the problems of finding maturity, conflict sometimes developed between us. I remember a time when my brother Jason's pursuit of fame as a musician, and my brother Ben's pursuit of a young lady brought them into a bitter misunderstanding." |

Synopsis: |
||||||||||||
Ben has his head in the clouds, he’s dreaming about Sally Anne Harper. In an attempt to get closer to her he pitches an idea to Jason. He suggest that he perform his new song as a duet with Sally Anne. Jason likes the idea and asks Bobby Bigelow if they can sing the song at the barn dance radio broadcast on Friday. Betsy Morgan another school mate of Ben's is hanging out with the band. She is trying her best to catch the eye of a boy. She asks Jason over to her place after dinner but Jason is too busy making plans with Bobby Bigelow. |

At school Ben asks Sally Ann if she would come over for supper because Jason has a question to ask her. She isn’t much interested until Betsy tells her that Jason has written a song and wants her to sing it as a duet with him. She accepts Ben’s invitation. Try as he might Ben is unable to catch Sally Anne’s eye. She becomes infatuated with Jason instead. Ben witnesses her kissing Jason in the barn while they are supposed to be rehearsing. He becomes furious with embarrassment. John-Boy tries to help but even when Jason tries to patch things up Ben decides to stay at home and miss the barn dance. After learning from Jason that Ben is the one who seeks her affection Sally Anne dedicates their song to Ben who is listening on the radio. He has a change of heart and meets her at the barn for a dance. |

Secondary Story: |
||||||||||||
John and Zeb play in a pool tournament with 4 other men at Ike’s pool room. Corabeth has gone back to Doe Hill which leaves the place empty for the men. They each put up stakes including a load of firewood, 6 hens, a pig, a weeks worth of grocery, and an old 22 rifle. Their wives aren't too pleased about the tournament. Grandpa concede’s the pool game he is winning in order to make it to the dance in time to hear Jason sing his new song. |

Epilogue: |

"Ben walked home with Sally Ann, and Jason walked home with Betsy. They both got back to the house around midnight, singing." |
