Even after 9 seasons The Waltons couldn't be stopped. In 1982, 3 made-for-TV movie specials were released that served almost as a 10th season of the show. The last three specials were released in 1993, 1995, and 1997. A number of the movies deal with the weddings of the Walton offspring and the birth of grandchildren.

This is the first program that serves as the earliest source for the TV series. Adapted from creator Earl Hamner's book of the same title, this 1963 film starred Henry Fonda and Maureen O'Hara as the parents of 8 children who's oldest son dreams of becoming a writer.

In 1971 Earl Hamner's 2nd book, that he modeled after his family, was adapted into this Christmas movie that would serve as the inspiration for the TV series. Many of the characters and most of the same actors that we know and love from the TV series appear here in this made-for-TV movie.
