Schuyler, Virginia - the REAL Walton's Mountain

Located twenty-five miles south of Charlottesville in the foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountain range you will find the small hamlet of Schuyler. It is a quiet village nestled along the Rockfish River in Nelson County that was once home to The Waltons creator, Earl Hamner.

It is here where fiction once again becomes reality as one discovers the geography, history and people popularized by the series.

Just outside the Hamner front door is The Walton's Mountain Bed and Breakfast Country Store. This is the building that the Walton's garden shed is modeled after where John -Boy would write and print The Blue Ridge Chronicle. Earl Hamner used it himself.

The baptist church where the family attended is just around the corner.

The Hamner children's school is located just up the street. Since 1999 it has been home to the Walton Mountain Museum and Schuyler Historical Society.

Driving around the region reveals many touchstones of the show like The Dew Drop Inn in nearby Scottsville, Virginia.

See how Schuyler looked when Earl was growing up. The quarry where Earl Hamner Sr. worked is located just down the road from the family home.
