Corabeth has had it with Ike and wants a divorce. She moves in with the Walton’s while she plans her next move.
Ike talks to Jason at the Dew Drop Inn over a beer. He says that he shouldn’t have yet her get into to real estate as she makes almost as much money as he does. Jason suggests that he try courting Corabeth again. He shows up to the Walton’s home and asks her on a date to see a performance of Schumann’s piano Concerto in Charlottesville. She has no interest and also announces that Amy will live with her once she completes her studies. Rose and Mary Ellen learn that Ike has committed adultery with a woman from Richmond base on a letter she found written in June 1941. That was 5 years before.
A customer arrives at the store full of gossip from the community about Ike and Corabeth’s breakup.
Ike shows up with roses for Corabeth. She is on the phone with her divorce lawyer and in no mood for Ike’s romantic gestures. Later, Ike gets into The Recipe with Ben and Jason while playing pool in his back parlour. Ike gets the idea to try and make Corabeth jealous by posing as a lady’s man.
Ike hires an escort from Charlottesville to try and make Corabeth jealous. She catches his antics on a night out at the Dew Drop Inn. As predicted by Jason the scheme backfires in more ways than one.
Ike is served with his divorce papers citing adultery as the reason. When Corabeth arrives for more of her items he learns that she has found out about Pamela Morris. Ike finds another hidden letter from Pamela and reads it to Corabeth. In it the woman accepts Ike’s love for Corabeth and lets him go. The last time Ike saw her was when he took Corabeth to Richmond to see the play Pygmalion. Corabeth wanted to go to a gallery around the corner where Pamela happened to work. It was 6 months since Ike had last spoken to the woman. Corabeth can’t forgive his deception but Ike says that he would have forgiven hers. Corabeth reflects on the situation and reconsiders her decision. She walks back into the store like it is business as usual asking Ike if there were any calls while she was away. Ike says that the phone never stopped ringing.
